On June 9, 2020, a dissertation defense is held by the School of Law and Economics online according to the relevant legislation and school rules during the pandemic. Dr. Meng Bolin and other 13 masters pass the dissertation defense successfully.
The members of the doctoral defense committee include Professor Zhu Daqi of Law School of Renmin University of China, Researcher Li Ziran of China Financial Futures Exchange, Professor Li Shuguang of Civil, Commercial and Eonomic Law School of CUPL, Professor Liu Chengwei of College of Comparative Law and Professor Zhang Qing of School of Law and Economics, with Professor Zhu being the chairman of the committee.
The master’s defense committee is divided into two groups. The first group includes Researcher Li Ziran of China Financial Futures Exchange, Associate Professor Ge Pingliang of Civil, Commercial and Eonomic Law School of CUPL, Professor Xi Tao, Associate Professor Gui Binwei and Assistant Professor Li Wenjing of School of Law and Economics, with Researcher Li being the chairman of the committee. The second group includes Associate Professor Zhou You of Central University of Finance and Economics, Associate Professor Hu Sibo of Procedural Law Research Institude of CUPL, Professor Zhang Qing, Associate Professor Xu Wenming and Assistant Professor Xu Shudan of School of Law and Economics, with Associate Professor Zhou being the chairman of the committee.
The defense starts with the statement of students, which includes the background, significance, demonstration methods, viewpoints, innovations and shortcomings of their dissertation. After that, teachers from the committee group ask questions about the handed dissertations, then students answer the questions briefly and clearly. To sum up, the topics of dissertations this year focus on the risk governance of large shareholder equity pledge of listed companies, the information disclosure system of the securities market, the list system of persons subject to dishonor, the risk and supervision of P2P lending, and so on. The students combine the theory analytical methods of law and economics, research on the legal system and economic phenomena, while make recommendations of legislation, amendment and reform.
The committee agrees that the students make full use of analytical methods of law and economics, fully discuss the problems by means of empirical analysis and case interpretation. The dissertations reflect the characteristics of interdisciplinarity of law and economics, which shows the theoretical value and practical significance. The structure of these dissertations is reasonable, the form is standardized, the discussion is convinced. The dissertations reflect the theoretical basis and research ability of graduated students, also meet the requirements of the training program. After anonymous voting, the committee unanimously agrees to award the doctoral degree and the master's degree to the students. In addition, the defense committee also recommend a master's dissertation as an excellent graduation dissertation.
