On November 16 and 17, 2020, a pre-defense meeting for doctoral and master's degree dissertation of the School of Law and Economics is held in Xueyuan Lu campus. The pre-defense meeting for doctoral students is held on November 16, and the members of the tutor group include Professor Liu Chengwei, Professor Luo Zhimin, Professor Xi Tao, Professor Zhang Qing, and Associate Professor Xu Wenming. Professor Liu is the group leader. The pre-defense meeting for master students is held on November 17. The tutors and the students are divided into two groups. The first tutor group includes Professor Xi Tao, Associate Professor Xu Wenming and Assistant Professor Li Wenjing, with Professor Xi being the group leader; the second tutor group includes Professor Zhang Qing, Associate Professor Gui Binwei, and Assistant Professor Xu Shudan, with Professor Zhang being the group leader. Some other doctoral and master’s students of the School of Law and Economics attend the meeting.

Two doctoral students Tao Zhen and Zhu Shaogang choose to research on the supervision of online lending and the supervision of private digital currencies. At the meeting, Tao and Zhu report the background, significance, innovations, the main content and the structure of the paper. Professors give their opinions on the topics, structure, content, research methods, conclusions, and references of the dissertations.

The topics of these masters’ dissertations focus on hot and difficult issues in the field of law and economics. The topics involve "differentiated penalties" for IPO information disclosure violations, gambling agreements, market manipulation behavior in high-frequency trading, and the coverage of directors’ liability insurance in China, anti-takeover provisions in the articles of listed companies in China, priority debt financing in bankruptcy reorganization, and so on. Fourteen master students report on the research methods, logical structure, framework, innovations and shortcomings of the dissertations. The professors give guidance and suggestions on the topics, structure, literature citations, demonstration methods, and academic norms.

The pre-defense meeting for doctoral and master’s dissertations of the School of Law and Economics is held successfully. This meeting not only helped the students in improving and perfecting their dissertations, helped them in consolidating the basic theories of law and economics and deeping their understanding for a practical problem, but also is of great enlightenment to the other doctoral and master’s students attended in the selection and writing of their own dissertation
